What a superscript generator actually changes

A font-size control shrinks the same letter A. A superscript generator replaces A with another code point that already looks raised. The clipboard still holds plain text. Nothing in PasteFonts changes the destination app’s type size, and nothing here creates a Word or Google Docs superscript object.

Subscript is the same idea in the other direction: selected letters and all digits 0–9 become lowered forms. This superscript generator shows both from one input so you do not have to open a second tool. The eight cards are independent copies. They do not interleave into a mixed formula editor.

The receiving app draws the characters with its own font; no CSS vertical-align or equation object is copied. In this superscript generator, ordinary leftovers indicate incomplete mapping. After pasting, missing characters can indicate filtering, while boxes indicate missing glyphs in the destination font.

Superscript sits above the baseline. Use it for a mock exponent, a footnote-like marker, or a compact kicker. Type “x2” and the 2 becomes ². Type “FAQ” and Q converts to a later modifier letter, not leftover ASCII. If a destination font draws a box, that font is missing the glyph; this superscript generator still mapped Q. Do not rewrite the word in a lookalike alphabet to hide a missing glyph.

Subscript

Subscript sits below the baseline. Type “H2O” and you can get ₕ₂ₒ because H, 2, and O exist in the current map. Type “CO2” and C stays ordinary beside ₒ₂. Prefer Subscript for short tokens that mostly use supported letters and digits. A full English sentence often comes back half ordinary, and that is expected.

Why this page is not the Small Text Generator

Super Letters and Super Numbers

Super Letters raise A–Z and a–z and leave digits and operators ordinary. Super Numbers raise 0–9 and + - = ( ) and leave letters ordinary. Use Super Numbers for “H2O” when you only wanted the 2 raised. Use Super Letters when the exponent look should stay on the word, not the count. Both reuse the same maps as this superscript generator’s full Superscript card.

Sub Letters, Sub Numbers, and the alternating cards

Sub Letters and Sub Numbers are the lowered pair of those filters. Super/Sub Alternate raises the first convertible character, lowers the next, and keeps going through letters, digits, and operators. Sub/Super Alternate starts lowered. Spaces, é, CJK, and emoji never advance the count. These six extras are not extra alphabets; they are views of the same Unicode maps on this superscript generator.

What converts

Which letters a superscript generator can raise

This superscript generator combines raised characters from several Unicode blocks to cover A–Z and a–z. Subscript has fewer mapped letters. Accented and other unmatched characters stay as typed; glyph support depends on the destination font.

Superscript digits 0–9 all convert, and so do Latin letters A–Z and a–z, including Q and q. Those two use later Unicode modifier letters, ꟴ and 𐞥, not the older ¹ ² ³ set. This superscript generator maps them; it does not leave ASCII Q or q in the result. Some destination fonts still omit those glyphs, so a box after paste means the other app cannot draw the character. This page will not swap in a phonetic phi or any other lookalike.

Many raised letters are phonetic modifier characters that happen to sit high, not the older ¹ ² ³ digits from Latin-1. In some fonts ² and ⁴ sit at slightly different heights or weights. That is a font drawing difference, not a second mode in this superscript generator. If a destination font lacks a modifier letter, you may see a box even though the digit ² still draws.

Subscript coverage is thinner. Lowered forms exist for a, e, h, i, j, k, l, m, n, o, p, r, s, t, u, v, x and the digits. Uppercase uses the same lowered glyphs when a match exists, so H becomes ₕ. Letters such as B, C, D, F, G, Q, W, Y, and Z stay ordinary. There is no subscript b, c, d, f, g, q, w, y, or z either. The map will not invent those letters.

ASCII plus, minus, equals, and parentheses map to their dedicated raised and lowered signs: ⁺ ⁻ ⁼ ⁽ ⁾ and ₊ ₋ ₌ ₍ ₎. Super Numbers and Sub Numbers on this superscript generator apply only those signs and digits. Type “H2O x2+3 Café 世界 😀”: letters with a mapping convert on the full cards, so Café becomes ᶜᵃᶠé on Superscript and Cₐfé on Subscript. The accented é, the CJK 世界, and the emoji stay as typed. A converter that deleted leftovers would fail that test.

Characters, not equations

Math and chemistry are examples, not typesetting

Use raised or lowered characters in plain-text fields. For semantic equations, use the destination editor’s equation or subscript controls.

“x2” becomes ˣ² on the full Superscript card. Use Super Numbers to leave letters normal. Neither option parses exponents or exports LaTeX or MathML.

Use Sub Numbers for H₂O or CO₂ while keeping letters normal. The output is a character string, not a chemical formula object.

A search for ASCII H2O or x2 may miss styled versions. Keep database keys, recovery spellings, and official names in ordinary letters.

Before you publish

Paste test, search, and accessibility

Screen readers may say “superscript two” rather than “squared.” Use ordinary words for essential information and navigation labels.

Counters may use UTF-16 units, code points, or grapheme clusters. Superscript q uses one code point but two UTF-16 units. Check the destination’s counter after pasting.

A short paste test

  1. Copy a short Latin sample such as x2 from this superscript generator.
  2. Paste it into the real field, save if the form requires a save, then reopen the field.
  3. Check boxes on newer superscript letters such as Q, and unmatched letters such as C on the Subscript card. If the mix looks broken, shorten the string.
  4. If you see boxes, try a shorter ASCII fallback. This superscript generator cannot install a glyph the destination font lacks.
  5. If the form refuses to save, stop. The destination rejected the characters; this superscript generator cannot override that rule.

Superscript maps Q and q to later modifier letters, which some fonts still lack. Subscript is missing many letters, including C in “CO2”. Characters this superscript generator cannot map stay as you typed them instead of being deleted or replaced with a lookalike.

Can I use this superscript generator for math or chemistry?
